Harold Lloyd Schmitt, age 92 of Keyesport, passed away at his home on Tuesday, July 23, 2019.
Mr. Schmitt was born on January 19, 1927, in Keyesport, Illinois, a son of John Henry and L. Leauvon (nee Elliott) Schmitt. He married Mary Sue Smith on April 19, 1953, in Brownstown, Illinois, and she survives in Keyesport.
In addition to his wife Mary Sue, Mr. Schmitt is survived by his sons - John David Schmitt of Chicago and Harold Kent Schmitt and wife Rita of Keyesport; a daughter -Shelia Ann Taylor and husband Tracy of Edina MN; a brother - Carlos Schmitt of Henderson, Tennessee; his grandsons - Travis Taylor and fiancé Rachel, and Logan Schmitt; his granddaughters - Megan Perez and Justine Schmitt; and three great granddaughters - Neave, Eila and Claire Perez.
Harold Lloyd was a lifetime farmer in the Keyesport area. He graduated from Carlyle High School in 1945 and had served in the United States Army from 1954-1956. While in the Army he was stationed at Ft. Chaffee in Arkansas and Ft. Bellvar in Virginia. He loved to play baseball, having tried out for the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago White Sox. Harold Lloyd was a member of the Keyesport Odd Fellows since 1945, where he held many offices including Noble Grand. He was a member of the Keyesport American Legion since 1994 and had served as a Deacon at Carlyle Christian Church. Mr. Schmitt was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and trap.
Funeral service for Mr. Schmitt will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 27, 2019, at Zieren Funeral Home in Carlyle with Rev. John Heston, officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Duncan Cemetery near Keyesport. Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2019, from 9:00 - 11:00 A.M. at Zieren Funeral Home.
Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mr. Schmitt are suggested to the Keyesport American Legion and will be received at Zieren Funeral Home.
