Lorraine M. Bruggemann, age 85 of Carlyle, passed away at the Carlyle Healthcare Center on Thursday, September 5, 2019.
Mrs. Bruggemann was born on November 6, 1933, in Breese, a daughter of the late Dennis and Sophia (Popeck) Akers. She married Joseph L. Bruggemann on June 9, 1973, and he preceded her in death on February 14, 2016.
Lorraine is survived by her children – Janice (Skiver) Brown and husband Ernie, Gerald Skiver and wife Mary Ann, and Susan Miko and husband Mark; her grandchildren – Justin Brown and wife Kathy, Matthew D. Brown, Nicole (Miko) Tull and husband Jordan , and Christopher Miko; her great grandchildren – Jackson Brown and Beau Tull; a sister – Esther Von Hatten; a brother – Dennis “Pat” Akers and wife Sheila; and her in-laws – Ralph and Mary Bruggemann, Gene Bruggemann, Stanley Detmer, Rita Detmer, and Nellie Bruggemann.
Lorraine worked as a dairy farmer along with her husband on the Bruggemann Family Farm until their retirement. After their retirement they enjoyed traveling together before they moved to Carlyle Healthcare. Lorraine enjoyed working crossword puzzles, word searches, and scratching lottery tickets that the aides and her special friend Bernie would bring to her. She especially enjoyed hiding treats from the aides and sneaking them to her son-in-law, Ernie. Lorraine will be dearly missed by her children, grandchildren, family, friends, and her frequent visitor, grand-puppy Kiwi.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 2, 2019, at Zieren Funeral Home in Carlyle. Burial will be at St. Mary's cemetery in Carlyle, where Lorraine and her husband Joe will be laid to rest. The family will greet relatives and friends from 9:00 - 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home prior to the service.
Memorial donations in memory of Mrs. Bruggemann are suggested to the American Lung Association or to the Clinton County Humane Society and will be received through Zieren Funeral Home in Carlyle.
