Mary Heinzmann Obituary

Mary Nancy Harbison Hintz Heinzmann, age 97 formerly of Carlyle, passed away at St. Paul’s Senior Community in Belleville on Sunday, July 7, 2019.

Mary was born on January 13, 1922 in Equality, IL the eighth of nine children of William Broten Harbison and Lula May Church.

She met Bob Hintz in 1940, they married in 1949. He had gone off to the Army and they married after his discharge.  He preceded her in death on November 13, 1974.

She married Lester Heinzmann on July 1, 1978 and he preceded her in death on April 13, 2018.

Mary had a son Terry Lynn, born on November 7, 1954 and preceded her in death on November 8, 2002, and a daughter Carolyn Sue died at birth in 1950.

She is survived by a grandson – Robert Hintz, a step-grandson -- Joseph Sterling; daughter in law – Linda Hintz Wagener and husband Robert Wagener, two step sons - Nelson Heinzmann and wife Bonnie, and Bradley Heinzmann and wife Kathleen, her  step grandchildren - Aaron Heinzmann and wife Jenn, Ethan Heinzmann and wife Brooke, Grant Heinzmann and wife Lynnsey, Stuart Heinzmann and wife Kaylee, Ryan Heinzmann and wife Emily, Lindsay Brefeld and husband Chris. Also surviving are 15 step great grandchildren, Lane, Brady, Samantha, Naomi, Nadia, Kyler, Rhyan, Kalan, Brooks, Clay, Olivia, Jacob and Claire Heinzmann, and Isabella and Luke Brefeld

She was preceded in death by her parents – William Broten Harbison and Lula May Harbison, husbands – Bob Hintz and Lester Heinzmann, son – Terry Lynn, daughter – Carolyn Sue, brothers – Willie, Harold, Lowell, Horace, and Bob, and sisters – Erna, Ruth, and Madeline.

Mary taught for 30 years, starting at Steel School in Sandoval in 1948.  She then taught at Salem Elementary, Carmi Children’s Home, Carmi Elementary, Harrisburg Elementary and retired from Carlyle Grade School in 1978.

 She was a member of the Carlyle Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and played piano and organ.

A Funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 10, 2019, at Zieren Funeral Home with Pastor Scott Broughton, officiating.  Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Centralia.  Visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at Zieren Funeral Home.

Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mrs. Heinzmann are suggested to the Carlyle Baptist Church.  Donations will be received through Zieren Funeral Home.
