Rosemary C. Hughes

Rosemary C. Hughes, age 72 of Carlyle, passed away at St. Elizabeth Hospital in O’Fallon on Wednesday, October 9, 2019. 

Mrs. Hughes was born on March 20, 1947, in Breese, Illinois, a daughter of Joseph B. and Mary (nee Varel) Voss.  She married Tom Hughes on April 15, 1969, at St. Mary’s Church in Carlyle and he survives in Carlyle.

In addition to her husband Tom, Rosemary is also survived by her sons – Ryan Hughes and wife Margaret, and Josh Hughes and wife Nicole, all of Carlyle; 3 grandchildren – Adelaide Helen Hughes, Jacob Thomas Hughes, and Charli Mae Hughes; a sister – Geri Wobbe and husband Dan of Breese; 3 brothers – Charles Voss and wife Norma, Joseph Voss and wife Joan, and Ralph Voss and wife Karen, all of Carlyle; and her in-laws – Mary Ellen Hughes, and Bill and Becky Hughes, all of Carlyle.  Rosemary is also survived by many nieces and nephews. 

Rosemary worked for Clin/Wash Ag Services for 20 years.  She was a member of St. Mary’s Church and St. Ann Altar Sodality.   Rosemary was also a member of the St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary and the Beckemeyer American Legion Auxiliary.  More than all else, she loved being a grandma. 

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 12, 2019, at St. Mary’s Church in Carlyle with Fr. George Mauck, officiating.  Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.  Visitation will be held at Zieren Funeral Home on Friday, October 11, 2019, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM and on Saturday morning from 8:00 – 9:30 AM. 

Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mrs. Hughes are suggested to the Huey-Ferrin-Boulder Fire Department and will be received through Zieren Funeral Home, 1111 Clinton St. Carlyle IL 62231.
