Thomas E. “Tom” Huels, age 61 of Carlyle, passed away on Friday, February 15, 2019.
Mr. Huels was born in Chicago on June 26, 1957, a son of Matthew and Rita (Froelich) Huels. In 1969, his family moved from Chicago to the family farm in Carlyle. He graduated from Kaskaskia College with a degree in agriculture and worked for many years at the Monterey Coal Mine in Albers. Tom later worked as the superintendent at Governor’s Run Golf Course in Carlyle. One of his many hobbies included riding his dirt bike.
Mr. Huels is survived by his children – Jason Huels and fiancé Joni and son Easton, Hazel Huels, and Hayden Huels, all of Carlyle; his mother – Rita Huels of Carlyle; his wife of 23 years, Shelly (Merry) Huels of Carlyle; his siblings – Paul Huels and wife Karen, Janet Winkeler, Mary Jo Schmitz and husband David, Matthew Huels Jr., William “Billy Jo” Huels and wife Cathy, and Diane Lovejoy and husband Nicholas; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Matthew Huels, Sr.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mr. Huels are suggested to D.E.S.C., (515 North 3rd St. Seattle, WA 98104, www.desc.org), a shelter for the homeless and mentally challenged in Seattle.
