Willie Macon Obituary

We want everyone to know, “Our journey with our Daddy has been amazing. He has taught us many priceless lessons. Most importantly he showed us to always have the heart of a warrior.” Thank you Daddy, you will be missed.

Willie is the son of Willie Macon and Willie Mae Stokes Macon; was born August 29, 1940 in East St. Louis Illinois. Willie’s family moved to a farm in Greenville, Illinois from East St. Louis, Illinois at an early age. He attended school in Smithboro, Illinois.

Willie moved to St. Louis, Missouri in his early twenties. Willie worked as a security guard in Welston Missouri and later as a lineman for General Motors, where he retired from in November 1990.

Willie never met a stranger, he could and would strike up a conversation with anyone. When you met him he left a lasting impression. He believed in working hard and enjoying life to the fullest. His favorite thing to do was fishing. You could catch him on a creek bed, river bank, or out on the lake in his boat. If the fish were biting, he would be there. Willie enjoyed his life and his adventures.

Willie is preceded in death by his father Willie Macon, his mother Willie Mae (Stokes) Macon, his sister Lillian Curry, his brothers Joe Macon, Willie B Rudder, Richard (Ricky) Macon and Harold Rudder.

Willie is survived by his life partner Ida (Bea) Hill, Mulberry, IL; daughters: Myrna Kemp, San Antonio, TX; Wineice (Ernest) McClendon, Decatur, GA; Wondell (Michael) Boyce, St. Louis, MO; Ralexia Macon, St. Louis, MO; Branddi Merritt, St. Louis, MO; his sister Diane (Raphael) Rush, Centralia, IL; his brothers Rev. Theodore (Avis) Macon, Belleville, IL; Jackie (Shelia) Macon Greenville, IL; Henry (Pam) Macon, Greenville, IL; Roy Macon, Mulberry, IL.

Willie had 10 grandchildren: Jasmond (Debra) Kemp, San Antonio, TX; Rufus Kemp, San Antonio, TX, Kiara Braddy, San Antonio, TX; Damione Hughes, Jr., Atlanta, GA; Dominique Hughes, Atlanta, GA; DeyZaun Hughes, East St. Louis, IL; Twana Quinn, St. Louis, MO, Fairelle Macon, St. Louis, MO; Ameshia Merritt, St. Louis, MO and Ameir Merritt, St. Louis, MO. Willie had 10 great-grandchildren.

Willie is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and cousins and lifetime friends.

Willie gave his life to Christ under the protection of Rev. Theodore Macon, Jr. at Holy Garden of Prayer in Carlyle, IL.

Willie transitioned to go be with his mother and father June 20, 2019.


A funeral service will be held at Holy Garden of Prayer Church in Carlyle on Saturday, June 29, 2019, at 1:00 P.M.  Interment will follow at Hazel Dell Cemetery.  The family will greet friends at the church from 12:00 Noon until service time.
