Addie Line Shelton was born on November 18, 1916, in McCall Creek, Mississippi, to the late William and Helen Picket McLaurin. She grew up in the south, attended Cool Spring Church, and was raised by her late grandmother Ophelia Jane Woods.
Ms. Shelton married Leon Jones on March 24, 1934. To this union came Lillie Mae and William, Jr. She moved to St. Louis in 1937 to live with her mother Helen. She graduated from Vashon High School. She united with the First Baptist Church, where she served as a Mother, and she enjoyed serving as an usher. She worked at Katz Drugstore as a short-order cook, a teachers' aide at Williams School, and as a pharmacy prepack at City Hospital.
Addie met Willie B. Kennard and they had Delores Kennard Jones. She married James Shelton in 1963. After 30 years, she retired from City Hospital and moved to a new home built by Leon, with James and her great aunt Lillie Owens. She united with the Second Baptist Church of Carlyle and was an active member, Mother, choir member, and usher. Addie was a giving person and tried to help everyone.
Preceding in death were her husbands Leon Jones and James Shelton, her son William Jones, Jr., a daughter Delores K. Jones, her sister Lonie Alma McGee, her aunt Lillie Owens, and a special friend Christina Kincaid.
Addie L. Shelton was called home on Tuesday, November 21, 2023.
She leaves to mourn her daughter, Lillie Mae Rowell, granddaughters Gayle Hickey, Paula Jones, and Muriel Jones, her step-daughters Joyce Jones and Diane Kennard, her cousins Willie McGee (Eunice) and Merlean Godbolt, her god children Renee Adams and Dorothy Pence, step grandson Henry Rowell, nieces Gwen (Alex) and Pat Hudson, and a host of friends who loved her.
