Betty A. Schulte, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 27, 2023, at Aviston Countryside Manor in Aviston, IL. Born on December 1, 1940, in Albers, IL, Betty lived a life full of love, laughter, and selflessness.
Betty was the proud mother of Linda Irvin, David Schulte (Kim), Jamie Schulte, Jayson Schulte (Terri), and Jennifer Schulte. She was a doting grandmother to Mickayla Skibinski (Brandon), Chris Smith, Corey Irvin, Eric Irvin, Adam Irvin, and Bryson Schulte. She was also blessed with 12 great-grandchildren, whom she adored. Betty's love extended to her siblings, Linda Singleton, Dave Wellen (Bonnie), Roger Wellen (Celie), and Kenny Wellen (Brenda), and her in-laws, Mary Ritchey, Carol Fischer, and Richard Schulte (Pat). She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.
Betty married Hubert A. Schulte on June 18, 1971, and he preceded her in death on January 4, 2021. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Alphonse and Josephine Wellen, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Arnold and Virginia Schulte, and her in-laws, Kathleen Schulte, Michael Schulte, Eileen Henkel, Phyllis Ritchey, and Philip Schulte.
Betty had a strong work ethic, beginning early in life while at Wee Walker Shoe Factory. She later offered cleaning services to homes throughout the community. Betty had a passion for camping and enjoyed spending time outdoors. She loved the tranquility of nature and the joy of sitting around a campfire with her loved ones. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Betty was the epitome of a selfless mother who loved her children and family unconditionally.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at St. Anthony’s Church in Beckemeyer with Fr. Chuck Tuttle, officiating. Interment will follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Beckemeyer. Visitation will be held at St. Anthony’s Church on Thursday morning from 9:00 – 11:00 A.M. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mrs. Schulte are suggested to the American Heart Association or to the American Cancer Society and will be received through Zieren Funeral Home, 1111 Clinton Street, Carlyle, IL 62231.
