David A. Uttendorfer, age 79 of Carlyle, passed away at St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia on Monday, February 17, 2020.
Mr. Uttendorfer was born on April 6, 1940, in Green Bay, Wisconsin. He served in the United States Army for 6 years, serving overseas in Germany. He later worked as a manufacturing engineer and travelled all over the world for work. David's hobbies included flying airplanes and sailing. His love for sailing brought him to Carlyle Lake and sailing in the Caribbean.
Mr. Uttendorfer is survived by his wife – Dana (Schulze Maschmeier) Uttendorfer of Carlyle; 4 children – Peter Uttendorfer of Seabrooke, Texas, Julia Uttendorfer of Portland, Oregon, Kristin Polifka and husband Martin of Potter, Wisconsin, and Heidi Erdman and husband Dean of Manitowoc, Wisconsin; and 3 step-children – Ed Maschmeier and wife Shannon of Evan City, Pennsylvania, Bill Maschmeier and wife Jodi of Kellogg, Iowa, and Mike Maschmeier and wife Rebecca of Belleville, Illinois. David is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, and a sister – Jane Melhorn.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Angela Uttendorfer.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 4:00 PM on Friday, February 21, 2020, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Carlyle, Illinois. Visitation will be held at Zieren Funeral Home on Friday from 12:00 Noon until 2:30 PM. A Celebration of Life and Military Honors will take place at Zieren Funeral Home on Friday at 2:30 PM.
Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mr. Uttendorfer are suggested to the American Cancer Society and will be received through Zieren Funeral Home.
