Dorothy Sohn

Dorothy Sohn, age 94 of Carlyle, passed away on Monday, September 23, 2019, at Aviston Countryside Manor.

Dorothy was born in Carlyle on July 23, 1925, a daughter of the late Ed and Helen (Forseman) Meyer.  She married Leonard Boatright on August 30, 1945, and he preceded her in death on January 20, 1963.  She married George C. Sohn on December 11, 1976, and he preceded her in death on December 8, 2011. 

Dorothy is survived by 2 sons – Larry Boatright and wife Carol of Keyesport and Ed Boatright and wife Mable of Greenville; seven grandchildren – Brad Boatright and wife Jamie, Les Boatright and wife Mandy, Neil Boatright and wife Mindy, Shana Huels and husband Tony, Candi Snyder and husband Jared, Eric Dickinson, and Cole Boatright; 13 great grandchildren – Brandon and Jensen Boatright, Luke and Lexi Boatright, Caden and Madilyn Boatright, Colton Rhodes, Jordan and Blake Huels, Landon and Bennett Snyder, and Emily and Logan Boatright; a sister – Edna Golder of Carlyle; two brothers – Charles Meyer of Carlyle and Bill Meyer of Lincoln, IL; a sister-in-law – Margie Sohn of Champaign, IL; and many nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her parents and her husbands, Mrs. Sohn was preceded in death by a son – Tommy Boatright; a daughter – Brenda Lueking; and her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. 

Dorothy graduated from Carlyle High School and worked at Moran Shoe Factory in Carlyle.  She later worked as a waitress at Hickey’s Restaurant in Greenville, she owned and operated a filling station in Keyesport, and later became a farmer.  She was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Carlyle.  Dorothy had many interests and hobbies, including baking, driving tractors and combines on the farm, gardening, travelling, going out to eat, and testing her luck at many casinos. 

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 27, 2019, at Zieren Funeral Home in Carlyle with Rev. Ken Schafer, officiating.  Interment will follow at McKendree Chapel Cemetery in Keyesport.  Visitation will be held at Zieren Funeral Home on Thursday, September 26, 2019, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM and on Friday, September 27, 2019, from 8:00 until service time. 

Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mrs. Sohn are suggested to Immanuel United Church of Christ in Carlyle and will be received through Zieren Funeral Home in Carlyle.
