Georgia Anne Gattung

Georgia A. Koontz Pasley Gattung, age 89, passed away in Glen Carbon, IL on Saturday, November 26, 2022.

Mrs. Gattung was born in Keyesport, IL on February 21, 1933, a daughter of the late Rosa Elizabeth (nee Thacker) and Clarence Eugene Koontz, Sr.  She married Harold E. Pasley on June 4, 1949, and he preceded her in death on June 20, 1983.  She was also preceded in death by two sisters – Louise Koontz Carver and Juanita Koontz Reynolds; a brother – Clarence Eugene Koontz, Jr.; and nieces and nephews – Linda Carver Fisher, Donald Gene Carver, Gerald Ray Carver, Marilyn Reynolds Boeh, and Sheila Kay Reynolds Shantz.  

Georgia is survived by a daughter – Brenda Cole of Glen Carbon; a grandson – Christopher Neal Cole of Maryville, IL; and a sister – Vonnie Koontz Wolfe and husband Larry of Carlyle. 

Mrs. Gattung worked at Obear-Nester Glass Factory, then was the first woman hired at American Steel in Granite City.  She finished her working career working in private duty home health.  She loved to travel, and had lived in Keyesport from 1994 until 2017.  Georgia enjoyed taking care of her home, especially tending to her flowers or working in her garden.  She also loved cooking and baking.  

A Funeral service will be held at Zieren Funeral Home, 1111 Clinton Street, Carlyle, IL 62231, at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, December 3, 2022.  Interment will follow at McKendree Chapel Cemetery near Keyesport. Visitation will be held at Zieren Funeral Home from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mrs. Gattung are suggested to McKendree Chapel Cemetery, Payne Cemetery, or to the Cancer Closet at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese.  Donations will be received through Zieren Funeral Home.
