Jimmie Griffin Obituary

Jimmie Isbell Griffin, age 86 of Keyesport, passed away in St. Louis on Thursday, December 24, 2020.

 

Mr. Griffin was born in Fillmore, Illinois on March 5, 1934, a son of Charles B. and Rena J. (Isbell) Griffin. He married Mary McCracken and they were later divorced.  He married Mary Duckworth and they were also divorced.  He then married Rita Littell on September 25, 1999, and she survives in Keyesport. 

 

In addition to his wife Rita, Mr. Griffin is also survived by his step-children – Natalie Stevenson (Marc), Debbie Wodtke (Dennis), Becky Pryor (Randy), and Bobby Duckworth; his step-grandchildren – Isabelle Stevenson, Christy Troxler (Jason), Donna Thull (Brent), Tara Gelsinger (Curt), Shannon Tate (Cody), Amber Weischedel (Jake), and Todd Toberman (Abbey); numerous step-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law – Pat Griffin and Jenny Griffin; his nieces – Gina, Wanda, Linda, Michelle, Joy, Barb, Janet, Jill, Betty, Cindy, and Dawn; and his nephews – Frankie, Jerry, Mark, Gary, Richard, and Ron.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings and their spouses – Margaret Hester (John), Frances Barringer (Wendell), Frank Griffin, Eula Woolward (Bill), Jack Griffin (Virginia), Carl Griffin (Joan), and Kay Turk (Louie); 2 nieces – Theresa and Diane; and a nephew – Charles. 

 

After his service in the United States Army, Jim worked at the Air Conditioning Plant in Greenville, he farmed, and he worked at Crane Packing Company in Vandalia.  He also hauled grain, hauled mail, retrieved trucks for John Hollenkamp.  Jim also owned and operated Jim’s Septic Service for 36 years.  He served as the Irishtown Township Road Commissioner for 23 years and served as township trustee.   Jim was a member of the Keyesport United Methodist Church, O'Fallon Lodge No.576, A.F.&A.M., and the Vandalia Moose Lodge 1447.   Jim loved making friends, talking to others, and telling stories. 

 

Visitation will be held at Zieren Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, from 3:00-6:00 PM.  Masks and social distance requirements will be followed at the visitation.  A Private funeral service will be held.  Expressions of sympathy in his memory are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to the Alzheimer’s Association.  Memorials and condolence cards will be accepted through Zieren Funeral Home, PO Box 276, Carlyle, IL 62231.
