Johanna E. Schubert

Johanna E. “Jo” Schubert, age 82 of Carlyle, passed away at HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese on Friday, March 19, 2021.

Mrs. Schubert was born on August 11, 1938, a daughter of Warren and Johanna (nee Schuchmann) Shields.  She married Donald Schubert on April 26, 1958, and he survives in Carlyle. 

In addition to her husband, Jo is also survived by a sister-in-law – Bonnie Burnett, a brother-in-law – Gary Schubert, and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings – Warren Shields, Jr., John Shields, Christine Shields, and Marie Marcum and husband Bill, and several in-laws. 

Mrs. Schubert most enjoyed the time spent with her husband, Don, and her family. She also enjoyed tending to her garden, baking for friends and family, sewing, and traveling.  Jo was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carlyle.  Earlier in life, she worked at the Wee Walker Shoe Factory and later for the Moran Shoe Co in Carlyle.  Many will remember Jo’s friendly smile at First National Bank in Carlyle, were she worked as a teller for over 47 years. 

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at the First United Methodist Church in Carlyle.  Committal will follow at Greene Cemetery.  Visitation will be held at the First United Methodist Church on Wednesday morning from 9:00 – 11:00 A.M. 

Due to COVID-19, restrictions will be followed.  Masks and social distancing are required, and please keep your visit brief.  Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mrs. Schubert are suggested to Greene Cemetery.  Memorials will be received through Zieren Funeral Home, PO Box 276, Carlyle, IL 62231.
