Obituary

Lelia M. Lowber, age 74 of Beckemeyer, died at Aviston Countryside Manor on Thursday, October 28, 2021. 

 

Mrs. Lowber was born in Vandalia, Illinois on October 13, 1947, a daughter of the late Gerald and Evelyn (Elam) Calhoun.  She married Robert Lowber in Vandalia on April 10, 1970, and he preceded her in death.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Gerald “Jerry" Calhoun.

 

Lelia is survived by her sister – Sharon L. (Calhoun) Garland; her in-laws – Jim and Carole Lockart; her nieces and nephews – Cindy Lockart, Jimmy Lockart, Lonnie Garland, Julie (Garland) Ellsworth, Dustin Calhoun, Heather (Calhoun) Jackson, and Ranna Lowber; many great nieces and nephews; and several great great nieces and nephews. 

 

Lelia enjoyed being outdoors, especially fishing and camping with family and friends.  Win or lose, she always loved her trips to the casino with Carole and Rosie.  Lelia worked at Princess Peggy, Crain Packing, and helped others with in-home care.  She attended the Second Baptist Church in Vandalia, and the Methodist Church.   

 

Mrs. Lowber will be buried with her husband at a private service at McInturff Cemetery near Vandalia.
