Luella M. Essington, 89 of Keyesport, passed away at the Carlyle Healthcare and Senior Living Center on Sunday, February 11, 2024.

Mrs. Essington was born in Irishtown Township on January 6, 1935, a daughter of the late Earl and Lovenia (nee Apple) Allen.  She married Elvin Essington in Greenville, Illinois on November 1, 1952, and he preceded her in death on December 14, 1989.

Luella is survived by her son, Kevin Essington and wife Mary of Keyesport; 2 grandsons, Blake Essington and wife Kayley, and Eric Essington, all of Greenville; a great granddaughter, Libby Essington; a brother, Paul Allen; a sister-in-law, Betty Allen; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Lovenia Allen; her husband, Elvin Essington; her siblings, Dallas Allen, Donald Allen, and Shirley Elling and husband Ervin; a nephew, Dallas Allen, Jr., her father-and mother-in-law, Tom and Kate Essington; and her in-laws, Opal Huddleston, Sara Diffenauer, Faye Essington, Bob and JoAnn Essington, Tom and Gladys Essington, Lloyd and Nellie Essington, and Murz and Catherine Essington.

Mrs. Essington was a hard-working wife, mother, and grandmother who devoted her life to her family.  She adored spending time with them, especially her great granddaughter, Libby.   She also enjoyed cooking delicious meals, baking wonderful treats for others, and making sure her house and yard were spotless.

Private services will be held, with burial at McKendree Chapel Cemetery.  Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mrs. Essington are suggested to Shriners Hospitals for Children and will be received through Zieren Funeral Home, 1111 Clinton Street, Carlyle, IL 62231.
