Mark W. Hodapp, age 67 of Carlyle, died at Fireside House in Centralia on Sunday, May 2, 2021.
Mr. Hodapp was born on November 9, 1953, a son of the late Louis and Margaret (Fisher) Hodapp. After graduating from Collinsville High School and Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, Mark began his journalistic career as a reporter for the Wood River Journal and the St. Louis Post Dispatch. He worked the last 42 years reporting for the Centralia Sentinel and Carlyle Union Banner. He spent many hours jotting notes and taking pictures while covering local news stories, sporting events, and civic meetings. Mark was a clever and witty wordsmith who loved recounting his traveling adventures. He loved dogs and was passionate about animal rescue. He also enjoyed listening to classic rock and sharing his love of music with his neighbors. Mark was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Carlyle and was a member and Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Council 1382, Carlyle. Mark was also a member of Bishop Althoff 4th Degree Assebbly.
Mark is survived by a brother – Terry Hodapp; a niece, Nicole, and a nephew, Kyle. He will be missed by the many friends he made over the years.
A Memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, May 11, 2021, at St. Mary’s Church in Carlyle. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 – 10:00 A.M. Tuesday morning. The 4th Degree Bishop Althoff Assembly will have a chalice ceremony at St. Mary's Church at 9:00 A.M. on Tuesday.
