Mary M. Cozart, age 71 of Carlyle, passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2020, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
Mrs. Cozart was born on February 4, 1948, in Alton, Illinois, a daughter of James E. and Willie M. (Mitchell) George. She married Terry Cozart on September 27, 1994, and he preceded her in death on January 23, 1997.
Mrs. Cozart is survived by her daughter – Andrea DeBruce (Robert) of Carlyle; her grandchildren – Joshlynn DeBruce (James), Amiri Sangster (Tori) and Alexis Sangster (Keith); 2 brothers – John C. George (Mary) of Godfrey, IL and Clayton Mitchell; and her great grandchildren – Jamiri and Jordyn Harris, Anastacia, Arias, and Aprentis Sangster, and Aliegha and Landyn Sangster.
Mary worked as secretary in the specialty clinics department at St. Joseph’s Hospital from 1998 until her retirement in 2010. She was a devoted member of the Holy Garden of Prayer Church, where she served on the Mothers’ Board, was the church secretary, and was the president of the kitchen committee. Mary loved working word search puzzles, playing bingo, and shopping.
A Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 1, 2020, at the Holy Garden of Prayer Church in Carlyle with Rev. Theodore Macon, officiating. Interment will follow at Carlyle Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 11:00 A.M. until service time.
