Melinda Viehland Obituary

Melinda K. Viehland, 61 of Springfield, died on September 24th, 2021, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. Melinda was born on May 19th, 1960, in Breese, to the late Raymond and Jan (Purcell) Nettles.

Melinda loved to garden, and she spent a lot of her time tending to plants. She was also a bookworm who adored puzzles and enjoyed cooking.  Melinda looked forward to traveling and spending time by the ocean. She loved her family, and spending time with them was one of her favorite things to do.

Melinda’s survivors include her two children, Mike and Josh Viehland; 12 grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and her siblings, John (Ann) Nettles of Granite City, Debbie (Alex) Phillips of Kinmundy, and Bethany Nettles of Carlyle.

In addition to her parents, Melinda was preceded in death by her son, Raymond Earl Viehland; and a grandson. 

A Memorial service will be held at Zieren Funeral Home at 7:30 PM on Saturday, October 2, 2021, with Rev. Jason McIntosh, officiating. Visitation will be held at Zieren Funeral Home on Saturday from 6:00 – 7:30 PM.  Expressions of sympathy in memory of Ms. Viehland may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice and will be received through Zieren Funeral Home, 1111 Clinton Street, Carlyle, IL 62231.
