Paul Dove Obituary

Paul M. Dove, age 98, from Bradenton and Lake Placid, FL died on Monday, December 30, 2019 after complications following surgery. Paul was born in Keyesport, IL on Jan 22, 1921 to Samuel and Nellie Ray Dove. Paul was the youngest of four children; he had two sisters, Hazel and Hattie and one brother, Ivan. Paul’s career started at the family farm, he later served in the US Army Air Corps, American Theater, and earned the rank of Sergeant. Paul worked as a mechanic for trucks. airplanes, and radios during WWII, 1942 – 1945. After the war, Paul graduated from McKendree College, and became a high school mathematics teacher for O’Fallon Township High School. Paul lived in Carlyle, IL until he retired to Lake Placid, FL in 1990. Paul was married and widowed twice, he married Vera Dannaman in 1957 and Mildred Ruth (Day) Laux in 1972. Paul was an active member of the Memorial United Methodist Church in Lake Placid. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, meeting friends for breakfast and caring for the local wildlife that visited his garden. Paul was an active ham radio operator and a writer; he created a collection of childhood memories of his family and the farm and self-published the collection.

Paul will be remembered best for his friendship, kindness, his appreciation of life’s most simple elements, and his respect for the children’s program at his church.

Paul is survived by generations of nieces, nephews, and their families from Illinois, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, California, Oregon, Germany and Florida and his sister-in-law Lily Day of Jacksonville, FL.

Paul Dove requested no public services. Paul will be interred with the Dove family at the Duncan Cemetery in Bond County, IL in the spring of 2020.

Ivan Dove’s family members include Martha Jane and Michael Flynn, Jeff and Nancy Mellen, (Danville, CA), Linda and Joe Basnet, Paul Bouchard (Dracut, MA), Robert Bouchard (Chester, NH), Richard and Pat Gauthier, Peter and Jane Gauthier of Lyndeborough, NH, Michael and Rachel Gauthier (Brookline, NH), Debbie and Kevin Gauthier, Bruce Gauthier, Charles and Roxanne Mellen, Kristina Mellen (Nashua, NH), Eric Dove, Reggie and Carol Dove, Ginny Dove (Tyngsboro, MA), Kimberly Dove (North Chelmsford, MA) and many great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews.
