Wayne K. Michael

Wayne K. Michael, age 70 of Hoffman, died at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis on Friday, September 6, 2019. 

Mr. Michael was born on November 3, 1948, in Centralia, a son of Theodore and Olinda (nee Reinkensmeyer) Michael.  He married Nancy J. Fisher on November 8, 1969, in Keyesport and she survives in Hoffman.

In addition to his wife Nancy, Wayne is also survived by his children – Tanya Ragsdale and husband Jim, Kenny Michael and wife Lisa, and Layne Michael and wife Chelsey; his grandchildren – Eli and Erica Ragsdale, and Ryan, Reese, Landyn, Lainey, Leslie, Kamryn, Mackenna, and Finn Michael; a sister – Mary Ann (Michael) Leutner and husband Bill; a sister-in-law – Shelia Holston; and many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings – Roy Michael and wife Joyce, Wilma Lange and husband Harlan, and Robert Michael. 

Mr. Michael worked as a dairy farmer and he later worked at Monsanto.  He served in the Air Force Reserves from January of 1967-January of 1973.  Wayne served on the county zoning board and he was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Mt. Vernon, the Beckemeyer American Legion Post 1227, and the Kaskaskia College Board.  Mr. Michael also served on the Clinton County Farm Bureau Board and the Clinton County Holstein Board.  Wayne loved to be with his family, and he was a die-hard Cubs fan.  He also enjoyed woodworking and gardening. 

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 12, 2019, at Zieren Funeral Home in Carlyle.  Interment with military honors will follow at McKendree Chapel Cemetery near Keyesport.  Visitation for Mr. Michael will be held at Zieren Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 11, 2019, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM and on Thursday morning from 10:00 – 11:00 AM. 

Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mr. Michael are suggested to the Sarcoma Research Fund (Washington University Division of Oncology, Box 8956-29, attention Robert Barczewski, 4570 Children’s Place, St. Louis, MO 63310).  Memorial donations will be received through Zieren Funeral Home.
